Damaged bathroom tiles

hi ,

i was removing a old showerscreen in our house and unfortunately this has left some holes in the wall tiles when removed .

I dont think they make the tiles anymore as it is a old house so my question is

what is the best way of filling the holes and making them watertight. the holes are where the showerscreen will go so will be largely hidden

any advice would be appreciated

as there was sealant applied down the middle ,the frame was stuck fast with very little movement .I was trying to cut the sealant with a razorblade and needed pliers to wriggle some room hence the shape of the bracket.

as a moderator/staff member/trusted advisor do you have some advice on how to fix it or do I google it ?

Hi,

Not really .just looking for some advice on how to fix it that's all and thought this would be the best place to get it.as the screen was faulty I needed to do it myself so my kids were safe to use the bath.

Can you offer any advice mate as the bathroom is over 10years old and we dont have any spare tiles to replace them with

Scrape the crap off and fill with flexible cement based adhesive (not tubbed) allow to dry.
Will not look to good but providing its being cover its the best I can offer.

thanks for your help. as the damage is largely under the bracket it wont be seen I just want to make sure it is waterproof.

Is there an adhesive you recommend that I can get at B&Q etc ?

I did buy this grout adhesive but I want ot check before starting .

the tiles look like bumpy whites to me, I'm sure you'll still be able to get them if you wanted to replace them,,,check first though.

Mapei Keraflex Tile Adhesive White 5kg | Wall Tile Adhesive & Grout | Screwfix.com

If you have a screwfix close, this would be fine (keraflex white 5kg). It's white too so will not stand out so much.

Buying a bag of powdered adhesive and using a cups worth could be a bit expensive!
You might be lucky and find a split bag at a discounted price or you could find a tiler locally and buy a cup full of adhesive off him/her for a couple of quid.

Also, it would be worth sealing the adhesive with a grout sealer........again this is expensive as you would only be using a thimble worth!!!!

Depending on how thick your new screen fittings are, then a generous application of Silicon would hide most of the filled holes.

I'm with Doug on this one. Everybody does a bumpy white. Match the size in mm, as they can be slightly different. Might not be exact white either. But I'd put money on you being able to get some.

Be polite on here though.

The lads work all day with tiles, every week; and then get in and carry on talking about them, for free.

But they don't have to. They enjoy it so do it. But it's not enjoyable doing it when somebody isn't being polite about they way they're going about their posts.

Let's leave that there now and assume you're just stressing your bag off about your holes.

Thanks for the advice and those that offered help. I went with sourcing some tiles and using the flexible grout and adhesive so will finish it off today.

Totally get your point and once again thanks to those that offered advice I truly appreciate it. Respect is a 2 way thing and nobody likes asking for help and being met with a comment like that first up especially when it wasn't expected and not helpful.I have asked questions on a number of forums previously and never had that happen.If people are offended then apologies

I'd swap that for a small bag of adhesive and small bag of grout.

That ready mixed all in one stuff is neither good as an adhesive or a grout. I don't know why they still make it. It's horrible to work with and isn't water resistant usually. And the ones that claim it's water PROOF need to do their own bathrooms in it and see how quick they change the wording then.

That'll be fine.

Reading through I agreed with @Doug Boardley they look like 250x200 bumpys to me.
Either adhesive or Silicon were reasonabls, working solutions. But at least replacing the tiles won't cause any issues finding a good fixing for your new screen.
