decoupling membranes

Hi all,

Silly question here, If it is so important to apply a decoupling membrane on to flooring then why not on to walls?

I understand it would be impossabile to do this as you would drasticlly reduce the wieght ratio for the substraight however do walls not expand and contract too over larger areas?

You can put a sheet anti-fracture/waterproofing membrane over a wall or the liquid applied material with fiberglass sheet, but not the waffle style membrane which is strictly for floors.
