Hi, I am wondering if someone could please give me some advice. I am about to tile my bathroom and a tiler has advised me that if i were to choose a tile size 600 x 600 it will never dry and that i should restrict it to 300 x 300 and go for ceramic only.

Could anyone please advise if this is correct?

Many thanks.

I feel a bit better since i found my answers now...thanks to you all who have replied.
Mosaic Girl...you are absolutely right... this tiler is ridiculous!
I live in Highland, Scotland- IV2 post-code and looking for a wall and floor tiler for my bathroom.

Can admin put this in the tilers wanted forum, please? 🙂 or actually, you can post it there yourself, Janey, for more people to see, and then check with admin that you found yourself a good one, whoever replies  Especially have a look at the red and green badges on the individual profiles.

Hi Janey, before you dismiss your tiler, he may well be giving you the correct advice albeit in a roundabout way. I would imagine a 600x600mm tile would well exceed the maximum weight allowance for plastered walls.
So a smaller tile would be more appropriate.

Remember that the weight limits are based on per square metre. It doesn't matter whether the tile is 600 x 600 or 50 x 50mm.

as a customer jayney you call the shots regarding tile choice. The tiler should respect this and advise how you can properly achieve this. Your 600 x 600 porc tiles will be fine on plasterboard (unskimmed) as long as your tiler uses a cement based flexible adhesive.

Hey Doug, Thank's a million for your message - you are so right and it has made me decide that if i want bigger tiles then if they are proffessional - they can just get on with it. I am gobsmacked at being told by a tradesman that i can't have a certain tile just because it is a bit more work for him! I am sure i will find a decent tiler to do this. cheers.

View attachment 35240 I'm sure you will find something like this in the UK. Some of the guys might know of a similar product. This product and similar is starting to become quite popular over here as it does away with any weight issues and the sizes are really big so very little joints if you want to go that way.
Just another choice to consider.
