Ive got some tiles under the fridge that i could lift but i dont think ill be able to take one up without it breaking as ive replaced a few in the past and i had to smash them off. Theyre fllor tiles and we werent in the house when they got fitted, previous owners.
Any ideas then how to get a tile off without damaging it? Cheers love. James.
Hi James,
Any of the tiles I've managed to get off walls haven't really been that well stuck down. The one behind the radiator in the rented house came off with a bit of gentle persuasion with a butter knife  Managed to take two tiles of the walls in my parents bathroom the other day too, but again, fixing was dubious and I think they were ready to come off.
Have you taken any of these floor tiles up before? Gently tapping a few of tiles may indicate if they're securely fixed to the floor. If there are one or two that sound hollow when you tap them, chances are they're not fixed too well to the floor underneath. At that point you'd need to rake the grout out from around the tiles carefully and then gently try to lift the
tile. Here's hoping that any hollow ones are under the fridge where the hole can be disguised easily
But a word of warning - only try this if you have the full backing of the other half or you don't mind considering the cost of completely brand new tiles being laid - just to be on the safe side. :20:
I've also just done a quick search on the net and found details for Topravit Ltd who appear to own the Toprak
tile range. They're based in Harlow in Essex, tel. 01279 770180 Give them a call and see if the
tile is still current.
