Customer asked today could I lay ditra onto floor boards instead of using hbb. I dont feel comfortable doing this what do you guys think is the best approach

They are pretty solid hardly any movement. Is it suitable for wood floor?

What kind of floor is it? If the floor is solid and stable then It's fine for plywood, chipboard though is always a worry.

It is chipboard that's y im a little concerned. Hbb is so much cheaper bit dont understand y they want ditra

I'd be tempted to glue and screw a cement board like Marmox, lovely to use.

I would prefare to use Hardie board glued and screwed, Ditra is for lateral movement and will do nothing for deflection. Imo.

Nah SM you need to get the chipboard out of the equation by isolating it, two part won't help.

At least they've done some homework and asked for Ditra!
We've been using it nearly 20 years and it's only recently that people are starting to know about it, but since then other systems like backer boards have appeared and again people are slow to catch on.
Is this a floating floor??

There's been quite a few threads about these floors and they can be trouble no matter what you put over them.
Ditra will certainly not be as good as backer boards, and even those are being frowned upon.

Hardie for me. Some people think Ditra type membranes are a cure-all for movement when it isnt.
