While the joists are showing it would be a good idea to add some strength by placings extra noggins in betweeen the joists.
Ply should be WBP ply of good standard, not the cheap rubbish that is flooding the market at the moment.
The ply should be primed on the back and edges and then screwed every 200mm along joists and noggins.
Personally I would then overlay with a tile backer board of 6mm depth and use single part flexible adhesive for the fixing of the tiles. then grouted with a suitable flexible grout..ie Mapei.
