effects of Silicon and grout on tanking membranes

Just wondered if anyone knew the reason for keeping Silicon away from Impey membrane kits?

Only ask as I have found them in contact with each other when removing a wetroom floor which had failed.

Also in areas it looked as though grout had eaten away the membrane, why is this? Which type of grout causes this?

The only reason I can think of with the Silicon is because it tells you on the Impey membrane itself.
As for he grout ????

I've never understood it myself. And now you say it appears as though it's allegic to grout?? Both of which are main ingredients of a bathroom/wetroom. It's like a car being afraid of roads

I know that your not supposed to use it and that it clearly states not to, I was just wondering what the adverse efferct its suposed to have is? Its just when removing a wet room floor Ive noticed that who ever fit it has used Silicon in some areas, and I cant see any damage to membrane and its been down 2years +.

Another question I have, when buying the tanking kits you get a tube of jointing compound and block of putty. Does anyone know of anywhere to buy additional tubes or putty? Or any alternatives?

When I used to sell UFH, the blue thermal boards couldn't get touched by some adhesives and certainly not most primers. The reason for that was down to the fact that it sort of melted the surface and weakened compression strength.

Perhaps something similar with this?

Aye thats what I was expecting, that it had dissolved membrane, but it all seemed cool. Ripped out now so dont really matter. Just my curious mind. lol

The sealant supplied by Impey is Butyle rubber based. I can only assume that normal silicon reacts with the membrane.

You may want to give this lot a call to see if they can/will supply just the putty?

apologies being a bit late with a reply to this one.
One reason for not putting Silicon sealants in contact with the tilesafe membrane is that due to it being bitumen based the Silicon will soften / melt it causing it to be drawn into the Silicon and causing discolouration of the Silicon
