fire place tiles

can I ask a tile question - I want to do decorative fireplace tiles OVER horrible white tiles which are on my current fireplace surround - how to I score the tiles so new ones will stay cemented on? thanks.

Ii would go over the existing tiles with an angle grinder to abrade the tiles then use a single part flexible adhesive ( white) to fix the new tiles with.

I did this very thing on an operational fireplace last year. Stuck the tiles down to the existing tiles with bal ptb rapid set. To be fair the existing tiles had collapsed and cracked so no scoring was needed. Not the most professional job in the world but they are still,there and not showing any signs of issues.

The fireplace is in use, works well and inside firebricks are firmly attached and in good shape as is the chimney.

thank you - my tiles are in perfect shape, very smooth and shiny, only one is cracked because I wanted to see underneath - they are firmly attached to plain cement. I just don't like white - does not go with the old character of the home.
