Before overlaying the floor make sure all the floorboards are secure.

Two obvious choices here are 15mm-18mm ply screwed down every 300mm minimum or 10mm backerboard layed on a 6mm bed of flexi adhesive and screwed down at least every 300mm. Ply should be primed, backerboard doesn't require it.

The floor should now be ready for tiling.

There are other things on the market like ditra matting etc, but you should be fine with either of the two above.

How big is the floor?
