Hi All,
This is my first post since joining TilersForum last month. I joined as it looked like the ideal place to ask for advice for fitting glass mosaic tiles in my kitchen. I am a keen DIY'er and have done quite a bit of tiling in the past, but had never tackled glass tiles. I wanted to know about cutting, adhesives and grout in particular, plus any tips I could gleam from the pro guys.
Of course what happened was these questions had already been asked and a few searches on the topics gave me the answers I wanted. I have used a PlasPlugs wet cutter for years and changed the wheel for a new glass cutting disc - it worked fine. On the advice of you guys, I used BAL mosaic fix and BAL superflex white grout. These were just brilliant. I had no problems whatsoever with either and the fact that I even bought a new BAL mosaic trowel (again on advice from this forum), made the job just so easy.
One tip I would like to pass onto other DIY'ers (the pro guys probably wouldn't need to do this), is if when cutting the glass tiles, and I had a lot of half cuts to do as they were in a brick pattern, the colour can chip off. Simply use the side of the cutting disc to fine shave the tile. This helps to 'square off' the tile and tidy up any chipping away of the colour.
I shall shortly be laying polished black granite tiles on the floor. Again, something I haven't embarked on before. However, I am fairly sure I will be able to get all the advice I need from TilersForum and if I can't find the answers I can ask, can 't I. Thanks to all.
