Guys, I've got my first actual quote, of a actual potential customer, not friend or family, so not sure whats right or wrong.

Its approx 6m2, with a small entrance step at one end. well I say step... The room leading into it is higher, so it steps down just at the door.

The concrete floor is painted, so its going to cost approx 50/60£ for the hire of a floor sander. then supply all the adhesive, grout and primer & also 2x transition trims & 1x stair nosing, or something simular, not sure how to finish the step? Can I just use normal trim? something like this one maybe?

Boltseal - Genesis Trims, Tools, Tile Care & Sealants

I've quoted £320, well I will be in the morning....

Thoughts? Changes? yes? no? :juggle2:

Thanks guys.

Hi dilz000,

What you have to look at is there will be a tiler out there who will ignore the fact that the concrete floor is painted and therefore can knock off the price of hiring a sander and therefore can do the job cheaper,i will bet she has had a quote less than £250.

Most domestic clients (in my experience) see a small area and think its going to cost buttons, unfortunately domestic clients dont see the work needed to leave a sound tiling job and therefore go with the option of the least mess/work involved, which generally is the cheapest quote.

Hope that makes sense :)

And that is where you need to use your selling skills, without being pushy you need to try and convince them that your the best for the job because you will do it right. Most of my work comes from referral but new work generally is from being able to talk to people and get them to want you to do the fixing.
Having said that if they want to pay peanuts I just walk.
