First tile cutter-What do i go for?

Hi all,

Have just joined this forum and find it so helpful and i'm not even a tiler yet!! I'm doing an nvq course in October and am already starting to think about which tile cutter would be the best investment. I've seen so many on the market, manual, electric, cheap and expensive ones.

I know i could purchase one from my training provider on the course but i really need help with this decision as i don't want to throw my money away!

Basically, can i please get some advice on the best all round saw to buy that will perform most if not all jobs; and that is likely to last a considerable time. I don't mind spending the money, or even buying 2 different saws if need be. All advice will be welcome as i am not yet in the business to make a judgement.

Hi Rich, you will get all sorts of replies to this question because it comes down to personal choice, I use sigma for all my cutting, I have quite a few of them, they are a bit more expensive but they are so dependable. Lots of guys use rubi but I dont like them really, again thats my choice, I have one but it has a lot of dust on it from none use

Hi Rich and :welcome: to Tilersforums.

The choice of make and model is as wide and varied as the tiles you will be fixing, you will probably need 2 or 3, a smallish one for smaller ceramic / porcelain jobs, splashbacks etc, a larger one for bigger jobs and a wet saw and angle grinder, again, there are many types.

why dont you wait till you start ur course and see what cutters they will have you using...they might have differant ones..i.e. sigma..rubi..etc..then c which one u find suits you.:welcome:

the best cutter for everything in my opinion is the Rubi TX 700. I've got one and it's a dream compared to others that I've used. It'll snap the hardest porcelain or the softest ceramic no problems. A brilliant piece of kit

I use a Gensis PRO 600 with Rubi blades and its mint Damn site cheaper then the rubi at approx 120quid.

Many thanks for all your comments, think i'd better wait til the course to try some out, that seems the best advice. Will let you all know what i opt for, looking forward to getting stuck in.
