Fitting Stone Resin Tray

Going to fit a stone resin slimline shower tray (1200x900x40mm) to the bottom end of a bathroom to turn it into a shower room.

Never done this before so looking for advice - I presume I will have to make an opening in the floor (Chipboard by the way) to take the waste trap and give and connect upto the old bath waste (if possible).

do I simply put a bed of mortar down, bed in tray, attach waste, seal upto access to trap, Silicon around the tray where it touches the walls or should I wait till the door is in and the morter gone off before siliconing it all round ?

I'd be tempted to cut out the chipboard first........and replace with 18mm ply.

Sort waste out.........then bed on Flexible adhesive. Then when addy has gone off......seal between wall and tray.

Then think about tanking the walls down to the top of the tray

replace with 18mm ply.

will do with the floor, dunlop tanking kit ordered, just need to get down to CTD and get some Mapei P9 (or Weber if still on offer).

Yes totally agree with the tanking option.

I did same as you. Put the waste pipes into the floor. Tanked everything. Fitted all the tiles then put the white goods over the top.

In the shot above the loo has now been fitted. The waste pipe to left (and the cut in the floor) is awaiting the white goods. The cut in the floor is to accomodate the waste trap which sits deeper than the base. Rather than cut a huge hole into the floor I made 2 separate ones. One for the waste pipe. One for the trap. That way the floor maintained its integrity.

I would tank the walls first, Fit the tray and seal tray to tanking.

Its going to be really tight on space (Width) with the 1200 shower tray and the stud wall hiding the water supply and the 4" soil pipe as wall to wall = 1325mm

would it be ok to set the tray into the wall a little on all sides - say 10mm left, right and back wall, not much but it will give me another 20mm
