Fixing large format

Hi - am new to Forum although have picked up lots of helpful info without being a member. Tackle most DIY jobs - plumbing, glazing, heating, electrics (wife does the plastering) and have done a bit of tiling before but am now re-doing bathroom. Have just bought 9mm x 400 x 250 tiles. Do these constituute large format and should I therefore use cement based adhesive. One wall of the shower will be ply (securely fixed).

Any comments on type of adhesive I should use and suitability of ply gratefully appreciated.

Hi Col,
Yes these tiles are considered large format and you should be using a cement based adhesive to fix them, I would use mapei P9 to stick them, once mixed you wil have 8 hrs working time! I would advise you use a 10 mm square or round notch trowel to fix. I would also highly recomend you replace the plywood wall with aqua pannel or at least plasterboard then tank it!

Thanks to Charlie1 for the advice and all others for the welcome. Know where I'm going with this now. Just have to sort out the other walls which were originally tiled (1948) with cement which took half the wall off. Was replaced with plasterboard and wallpapered but this is obviously not suitable for large tiles. Have some ideas in mind.

I would'nt normally tile on tile but in the circumstance where they have been fixed in 1948 with sand/cement I've had that pleasure before and there rock solid.
