fixing tiles to ceramic (glazed) tiles

Hi I am considering tiling over the existing tiling.

I am going to use Bal - Mosaic adhesive.

My question is - Do I have to "deglaze" or roughen the faces before tiling over?


I will be putting up 600x600 tiles

The old tiling is secure & well fixed.

Tiling onto existing tiles is generally frowned upon. In some cases, this can be achieved with small ceramic tiles but in your case, I would not advise it. 600 x 600 is a rather large, heavy tile whether its a ceramic, porcelain or natural stone. What adhesive was used on your existing tiles & what is the original substrate?

as above strip old tiles off they might seem solid but imo they wont be its amazing how quick you can strip them off.

Rendered walls (sand & cement) Dont know about the adhesive - just bought the place.
