Floating Floor Question

My kitchen floor is being retiled after a leak from the washing machine ran along the vapour control barrier and the chipboard soaked it all up and blew the tiles.

The contractors just hacked up the tiles and relaid, needless to say after a year loads of tiles were clicking when trodden on and grout was coming up, they should of replaced the boards and used a decent adhesive, also two days with a Kango removing the original tiles did the jablite insulation no favours.

I now have a structural surveyor overseeing the job as if it is not done right this time the insurance company will end up in court. I know there are mixed feelings on tiling floating floors but mine was fine for 8 years till we had a leak.

I have insisted that the insurance company reinstate the polysterene jablite with a 50mm Kingspan as it has less bounce, I also have insisted that the chipboard sheets are to be replaced with 18mm exterior grade tongue and groove plywood with all joints to be glued.

I am having a warmup under tile heating system installed too. After lots of research I believe these are the best materials that can be used.

The tiles I have chosen are 450mm square porcelain, I intend to insist on a 2 part BAL Fastflex Adhesive, I am however at a loss as what is the best flexible BAL Grout, bearing in mind my wife would like a coloured grout ie ivory or champagne.

Can anyone on here please recommend the best possible grout within that sort of colour range?

Any comments on the floor construction would be welcome too but may be a little late as they start tomorrow.

Personally,Iwould have warm up insulation boards down first then tiles in fastflex 2 part.As for the grout,bal wide joint grout comes in various standard colours and the microcolour range gives you more to choose from,ensure that the wide joint grout has BAL GT1 polymer added to it,this combination is the best and most flexible you can buy.

totaly agree with gazza. bal sell super flex floor grout aswell but wide joint with gt1 will make a stronger grout for floating floors...

Thanks for your help I have now give the spec to the tiler, luckily he agrees as he tiled temple station. Am confident he will do a first class job. There seems to be much less deflection in the floor with the kingspan and 18mm ply.

I'd choose Varme or Flexel underfloor heating over warmup anyday.And then use Marmox boards (which make warmup boards for warmup) as they are cheaper.

NIGHTMARE

First the tiler tiled the floor but the tiles were not square to the walls, 60mm OUT. When the units would of gone in the grout line would of dissaperared behind a plinth. So I get them to take it all up, it ruined the UFH and the ply.
The contractors did it at their own cost some £3000 then when it gets relaid I find cracks in the grout a week later. Used fastflex, widejoint grout with the admix.

I am awaiting an opinion from a Chartered Surveyor now but am not happy as we have been without kitchen for 10 weeks now.

Is it movement in the floor/tiles that have caused the grout to crack or a fault with the grout itself?

how long did you leave the floor before turning on the UFH...... and was sufffient additive used in grout mix....or grout mixed to stiff and hasnt adhered to edge of tile....
and lastly with it being a floating floor are you sure it was solid enough to tile....
