Floor Levels - 40mm difference

Halfway through my extension - running into loads of problems.
Current one - I have installed a set of folding sliding doors. I want the kitchen floor tiles to run flush with the door sill and also with our hallway floor. Unfortunately the difference in levels is 40mm. The distance is however 6m.
Opinion is divided over whether or not I can lose 40mm over the 6m distance without it being noticeable.
I say yes and one of my builder mates and the tiler agree.
Two of my other builder mates say no - and that I should run the floor level and have a 40mm step out over the sliding doors ( which to me negates part of the concept of having these doors!)
Any advice much appreciated.

is it a screeded floor and does the floor fall towards the doors

Thanks, I obviously haven't explained properly.
The floor has been screeded and is flat but not level (has the slope) and is ready to tile.
But if I have to correct it I'd rather do it now.

Point A is my hall/kitchen doorway. Point B is my new sliding doors (3.5m wide) leading onto patio.
The distance between point A and point B is approx 6metres.
The floor slopes up 40mm from point A to point B.

The kitchen units are along one side of the room.
They start about 2m in from point A (theres a door to the side extension) and run for 4m. There is a range cooker 1m breaking this run up.
In the middle of the room there is a 2.6m (long) x 0.9m island.
So visually the slope will, I think, be hidden/distracted.

I personally would notice a 40mm drop over a floor of this distance. NHBC guidelines accept 25mm drop over 5m which I think is a lot but I suppose I do work with levelling screeds.

I fail to understand why it is so far out - workmanship? datum?

I think however the trip hazard represented by a 40mm step at the door is probably more of an issue for me.

in my opinion 400 over that distance would stick out like a sore thumb , any verticals are going to look well weird against a horizontal that far out

I dont honestly see what else you can do other than rescreed which you dont really want to do

you dont want a 40mm step into the kitchen as its dangerous

Ive tiled smaller floors than that that have been out of level and it hasnt shown on the finished job

reason its not level, or at least on less of a slope is that we want the floor to be level with the hallway floor.
(we mucked up the sliding door level at the initial footings build because the garden slopes up from front to back of the house)

I suppose we could put on more adhesive and have a small ridged threshold which would reduce the slope.

Using 9mm porcelain.
The tiler said - no problem it'll be flush either end and I'll run the slope out so you won't even notice it.

I would not do that. Never make the surface level by tiling with tons of adhesive. You can not put more then 5 mm of adhesive usually, you can use special adhesive which you can put upto 30 mm but what for? It will cost a lot. Use proper compound to make the surface as you want and then tile it but i strongly recommend you to rescreed. It is not so hard but hire good craftsman to do it.

Your tiler could always wet fix.. Sand/cement and slurry fix..

Whatever you do i would try and make it level m8, tiles should be level and to me that would be really noticeable:smilewinkgrin:

being that its screed could you not self level and beef it up with sand and make a run 40mm to nothing and run it in thatbway

Could you you not use a hardwood tilt fillet ( ramp) in the threshold. There are fibre slc. that will do from 0 to 50mm, just a suggestion
