We are on a little job where the customer had a problem with the 'wetroom' floor tiling.
This job has been done within the last 6 months by a 'Bathroom Fitter' ie. Plumbing, tiling and electrics.
Unfortunately it was originally the walk in shower tray which was leaking, then on closer inspection the floor tiles all popped up and it then revealed the UFH!
Not only are the wires touching, but the floor sensor is loose in the wall and so close to the wires/heat source
that it wouldn't work efficiently.
I'd love to show pictures of the original floor - as the water ran out the door - or the attempt at enveloping the tiles to the trap, but this had me concerned that the danger someone without the knowledge has allowed this standard of work to be completed and no doubt will continue in the future.

Makes you sick doesnt it. I had pretty much the same job about 6 months ago and it was carried out by one of my competitors. I told the customer to get them back to sort it... They came back and quoted £3000 to put right their own work!!!!! :mad2:

I think the fitter must have spent all of 10 seconds reading the manual.
I hope that black cable going into the wall is the cold tail, but as you say, too close to the heating element anyway.
The heating element on the backing mesh is too close to the wall as well.

I turned up to fit the UFH in the en suite Im doing this week today, builder wanted me to install it without the probe or thermostat. Just had the mat and wanted me to install it and SLC over the top... Brilliant.

Must be trying to save £70 - but when it overheats who will get the blame - that's why we always leave them tested, but with cold tails for connection by a qualified electrician.

I always insist my sparky connects the mats we install. It's amazing how many sparks out there don't have a clue when it comes to heatmats....

The ONLY time there is a problem with UFH is when the customer employs their own electrician. We either stand behind them and instruct the procedure or have to get our Electrician to go and check after a fault is indicated.
