If you have a break ( joint ) in a substrate...then you have to continue this joint through to the tiles , even if using Ditra....this is specified by schluter as well......

Timber will expand and contract at a different rate to the concrete....The slightest amount of deflection will in time cause a failure at this point......:thumbsup:
