how do you tile a floor which is half floorboards and half concrete?

Put a movement joint where the floor breaks.......use either a preformed joint or use a cold joint...( Silicon)......

i would use ditra matting or similar as long as the wooden floor is sound and doesnt have any bounce in it {deflection} the ditra matting is ideal for this application you can stick it down with flooring adhesive and tile with cement based flexi adhesive gorut with flex grout and you will have a good floor

If you have a break ( joint ) in a substrate...then you have to continue this joint through to the tiles , even if using Ditra....this is specified by schluter as well......

Timber will expand and contract at a different rate to the concrete....The slightest amount of deflection will in time cause a failure at this point......

Depends upon the brand paul don't you think.....mapei make levellers that far exceed 12mm.......

mi self i would put grano chipping in the latex compound
