That's how I learnt to tile. Did some time at college but realised that the only real way to get the proper ins and outs of the trade was to be on the ground and actually doing it. I spent a couple of months working for free (with the proviso that he explained what and why he was doing as we went) for a bloke I know who gets lots of different work and it worked out brilliantly for me, gave me confidence to tackle most things from the off.
