Got a couple of freebies from CTD when I was up on Thursday.

Got two of these backer boards to try out, has anyone got any feedback on them?

How thick are they...

6mm & 12.5mm.

6mm comes in 900x1200mm
2400x1200mm

12.5 comes in 900x1200
2400x1200
2700x1200
3000x1200.

The boards come pre-primed & they are about half the weight of the equivalent Hardie.

Not one I've used Rob to be honest but they have fibres in them for strength rather than a cement backing....

I've used them a couple of times Stef, really easy to cut (Stanley knife job), they can also be bent so good for curved wall if you should ever need to do one. I still prefer hardie though, even if it is harder to cut and could potentially kill you :yikes:

Bri, I like the size of the sheets.
If you are boarding a wall you could use 2 3 metre sheets & have only 1 joint to deal with,
If your walls are obviously just shorter than 3 metres & spin the board onto landscape.

That's Why I use jackoboards. So versatile and easy put up.

Never use these on a floor. I actually done a fitting demo for British Gypsum last year when these boards were first manufactured. Spent a few days here and there with the reps and tech guys, I'm sure Dave did too. It's nowhere near good as hardie

How do you cut hardie..I've tried there own cutter but I just use my grinder now !

Use the hardie cutter for straight cuts and grinder outside while holding breath for anything else!!

Yes we tried it out for British gypsum earlier in the year ... it is a good board and install is quick .. didn't realise CTD were getting it in, i wonder if it is branch choice or across the board.. will find out in the morning..

Yea..I need to invest in a mask..although think it might be to late..I don't smoke but I can hear erasing when I breath...will try the new gypsum board though

They had a pallet sitting at the door, told me to take a couple.
I like using Hardie, especially overboarding floors.
They didn't have a price for it though.
Wait to see if its in line with Hardie prices..

we only used the 12.5mm wall board as i told them the 6mm was not suitable IMO for floors.. so unless they have altered it then i shall not be using it , the free 6mm boards i got are still sat in CTD gathering dust :lol:

Is it waterproof or just water-resistant?

I done a test on these boards alongside hardie in my garage, stuck three tiles on each with rapid set flex, left them sitting for bout two months, then came back and flexed the boards, the tiles fell off the gyproc board instantly, the hardie was near impossible to flex. Nuff said!!

Ohh, don't like the sound of that..
Might try a wee test in my garage for them Trevor & try & record it, could be interesting
