Gripe about Meter coverage on floor tile adhesive !

Why do manufacturers who make floor tile adhesive base the meter coverage on a 3mm notched trowel ??? WTF is all that about, no-one uses a 3mm notched trowel to tile a floor coz most floors are not level.

Sick of having to tell customers "you need more adhesive" !...I aint a full time tiler but i know you need a bigger notched trowel to tile a floor....Gripe over !!!!!!!!!!!

that's why I prefer to supply my own adhesive..

Supply my own. Work on 2 1/2 m2 per bag on floors, 4 m2 per bag on walls.

If your tiling an uneven floor try using a levelling compound first and you should get at least 3.5m2 - 4m2 per bag with a 12mm notch trowel. Not only that you'll tile floor twice as quick with far better results.

Not onto Detra mat. I can't remember the last time i didn't use Detra when tiling a floor

try mapetex instead you'll use a lot less adhesive than with ditra!

you use ditra on all you floors..? is it all ufh......or stone, I know ditra has it's place, but wouldn't use it on all floors.

if a floors that uneven then I level first, and using a 10mm trowel can get approx. 5m2 per bag..

Yes, alot of stone, nearly all ufh, wet and dry or on ply or new/green screeds. I know people lay floors without Detra, I end up lifting them up and relaying new. Doing one this week, 60m2 travertine on ply. Been down about 4 years, you can see the sheets of ply though cracked tiles. For the extra cost and peace of mind silly not to use it. If you shop around some good prices out there.

I usually base a job on 5m2 a bag always take one or two extra for back buttering etc bad floors obviously need sorting before tiling commences.

I normally advise in the showroom that they'd get approx 4 to 4 1/2 m2 per bag, obviously if they were buying TM Lightweight it would be a lot more

When I was laying shops 600 x 600 we used PTB on a very good floor which we didn't see often we would get 2 mts to 20kg

Just done 90m2 limestone floor with large tiles and used 75 bags 20kg, the floor was horrendous :yikes:
