Got a call today from a salon near to me. They have had nearly 100m2 of tiling done in porcelain (he said there very shiney but i dont know if there polished). He told me that the tiler used an all in one grout and adhesive and the problem he is having is the grout is just getting really dirty and he cant clean it up. He wants me to price for removing grout and replacing with epoxy grout that he's been told about.

I told him i need to look at the job but i found it very strange that an all in one adhesive/grout was used. is there such a thing as a cement based all in one? i thought they just came in tubs for the diy market?

Also, i dont think an epoxy grout is needed or can someone correct me on that? I've never used it before but i thought it was more used in kitchen areas and places like heavy duty workshop floors. Could i use a mapei gout (which i normally use) and that would be enough, it can be cleaned up when it gets dirty or would the abuse its getting be to much.

Not sure how normal grout would react with the hairdressing chemicals, probably a good idea to check with Mapei technical before re-grouting, that's probably why epoxy grout was recommended.

I would think that Mapei Ultracolour would be fine.

With a salon imagine all the dyes and gels that could be splashed onto the floor.....

An all in one grout and addy in cement base, not one I've heard about

You could offer to seal the joints once grouted .....for an extra charge

Cheers sir ramic, I was going to offer the sealing after grouting for extra protection. I didn't think epoxy was needed, think i will give technical a ring.
As for the all in one addy/grout, thats worrying!

I can see this one being a total mess if i'm honest. Thats why i want to see it and go from there.
