Hardibacker under shower tray

Is it ok to cement the shower tray directly onto the hardibacker on the floor?

Don't see why not as long as the hardie has been fixed correctly. I stand to be corrected though!

thanks. just that the instructions say that for a suspended floor (as mine is) the floorboards must be removed, and a single piece of ply put down. I'm using hardibacker on the floor before tiling, so would prefer not to have ply in one section and hardibacker elsewhere.

sorry, i know this isn't strictly tiling, but thought because of the hardibacker involvement would be better answered here.

Well I was assuming that you were putting the Hardie on top of your boards! If you intend using the hardie INSTEAD of the boards then you will have problems I feel!!

no, definitely on top of the boards. just that instructions say to remove boards and put ply down rather than just put ply / hardibacker over boards! Can't really see why they stipulate that?

Prob because ply is in 1 piece instaed of lots of joins.

Drop Wetdecs a PM and run it by him, he will put you on the right path!
