My question is can you use hardiebacker 250 in a wall application, timber stud work at 400 centres, 10mm travertine on top?

The 12mm would bring out the wall too much for the wall mounted taps and fittings so 6mm would be ideal.

I have phoned up the James Hardie tech help and they said there won't be a problem, all the info I have found says 6mm is for the floor and 12mm for walls but I just wanted to check with the pros on this forum who have actually used it rather than the theory of tech support.

Thanks in advance.

I was under the impression that 250 was for floors and the only occasion for it to be used on walls , was on a solid substrate and bedded in with adhesive and then mechanically fixed..

IMO you need to alter the plumbing to suit the 12mm 500 hardi..

This is where it gets confusing then as like I said I spoke to tech support as I wanted to double check and they informed me no problem at all, 6mm is so it doesn't increase depth of floor too much. Surely if it can take floor traffic then it should be up to the job of wall application??? I think I'll grab adhesive and mechanically fix to 400mm studs to make sure.

i wouldn't see a problem with the hardiebacker on the wall, much stronger than plasterboard.but wouldn't bother with the addy on the stud work, just screw it in to timbers, put more noggins in to add more strength
