I would turn the boiler off but it's a combi and I'm not a fan of cold showers!

mine's never been off! the missus had the heating full on one summers morning (around 11a.m.) just to dry the little boys t-shirt for school. i can't repeat what i said to her :lol:

I've got a boost facility on my boiler. I can boost it for 1, 2 or 3 hours at a time without having to have the heating timer set at all. So I've been boosting it a couple of hours a day just so the rooms stay at a nice 18C. I will be however using my little electric heater to heat only the rooms I'm in rather than the whole house. Will try to get to the end of October without having to put the heating on timed.

I'm not allowed to switch ours off. I just set the upstairs thermostat to 18 and the downstairs thermostat to 20, then my wife and daughter turn them up whenever they feel like it :mad2:.

Just been out on the patio and it's still 30 degrees!

I have a solid fuel stove planted in my main fireplace for 4 years now and it's class!!
It keeps our kitchen/ living area nice and warm nicely.
It's lit now.... It heats this room easily which is 28 feet by 21 roughly.
We burn coal in it.

Got ours on only for half an hour in the morning/afternoon, but today we had to have it on a bit longer. We live in a 1920’s detached house made up of solid (single) bricked walls and crittall windows. When the boiler goes off the heat in the house instantly goes out the walls & windows. It’s absolutely freezing.

We live in a conservation area so to replace the windows for similar would cost an absolute fortune.

I’m currently looking at secondary glazing and also looking at this 4mm acrylic plastic glass (sold in Screwfix). I don’t have any work lined up for next week so next week I might become a window fitter !!

Oh, whilst on the subject of insulation. Our chimney stacks are soaking up water when it rains. I got onto the roof last weekend and managed to wrap some Homelux tanking around part of the chimney. It was quite a scary task. Luckily I could hold onto the sky dish for safety!!

Just came back in and stuck the heating on, and it looks like another winter, maybe forever and ever, of dodgy radiators nobody seems to be able to fix. Hohum. Luckily I have a toasty little studio

Winter is my favourite time of year. I love the cold, short days and coming home to a cosy house..... Bit chilly on the hands when wet, but apart from that, bring it on!

Awwhhhh....it's not soooo bad, cheer up, Dave, just think you could be homeless or something.... and Baileys tastes even nicer in Winter and hot baths are wonderful, and candle light, it can be a cosy time :yesnod:
