Ladies and Gents, your thoughts please.
Tiling a 5 bathroom house at the moment with 4 baths completed and only the master to finish.
Builder is a stand-up bloke and the whole job has gone well with no problems.
However, the feature wall for the master has turned up and i was shocked to say the least.
100cmx50cm "split-face" stone which is 30mm thick! Heres the problem i have flat out refused to fix these to the wall (2.7mx2.4m half Wedi ((wet area)) half skimmed plasterboard!!) The wall has been completely tanked.
I reckon this stone must weigh in the region of 70kg per m2? and can not imagine this not failing.
Structural engineer comes out and does a survey saying these are absolutely fine to stick to the wall. No mention of mechanically tying or anything.
I feel very uneasy about this and even with a disclaimer saying i accept absolutely no responsibility for damage or injury due to failure i think i may refuse.
What do you reckon?

skimmed board is only 20kg not sure of the wedi board, so your concerns are founded, that is some serious weight..

Surprised at the structural engineer stating it's ok.

has the 'structural engineer' put this in writing with his calculations showing how he reached his conclusions ?

I have fitted peruvian bias cut slabs 1800 x 600 but we screwed and wired them (only 10 mm thick)

I would refuse to do the work if I where you unless the subtrate is changed and framed out so you can side clip them.

I'd be suggesting to the SE that he acquaints himself with British Standards

I would flat out refuse to do it unless the se puts his calcs in writing, proving that it's safe.........

Refused a 300x300 granite job only this week. 2.5kg per tile.

No way would I chance putting up split stone 30mm
