Hi Brian c. Did a weeks course at NE Tiling. Excellent course. Then accompanied a tiler friend for a while, learning lots from him. Meanwhile I advertised in :-local paper - (expensive); local free papers; cards in local post offices and shops; cards in tiling, bathroom and kitchen shops in area; adverts in local monthly community magazines; adverts in local commercial magazines (i.e. those things that come through the letter box full of nothing but adverts for dog pedicurists, sheep tatooists and tilers); various local internet sites; and an advert in the bt phonebook classified section. All produced results in varying degrees. I was busy from end of November, when I started, up to Christmas, but then not enough work to keep me fully occupied, hence the council work. I'm hoping to be able to keep that up while still fitting in private work as and when it appears. This forum has a number of ideas that I still need to explore. Its slow going at the moment. I was talking to someone the other day who said that it seems to have got very busy with new tilers in this area compared with 3 years ago. But I'm starting to get quotes from recommendations. So things are slowly building up.
