My name is Sean. I live (and will hopefully work as a tiler in and around Ruislip, West London (9 O'clock on the M25 !!).
I was in IT for 24 years until my job (and 100's of others) went to India. I was unable to look for a job straight away because we, (myself and my Wife) had a very premature little girl. She was 4 months prem and had lots of problems. She decided to be born on the day we moved house! Anyway, to cut a very long story very short I decided to change career so I could hopefully work close to home, be flexible and still help my Wife care for our disabled little girl. I must not forget that we have another little girl too.
So in Jan'08 I enrolled in a 4 week tiling course (Tradeskills4U) in Crawley (Gatwick). It was like being back at work again, but this time I could not wait to get through their doors every morning and learn something new. I may write a review about the place if anyone want to know more about my experience there.
I have now bought my tools (TS40 plus) (Briccolina wet cutter) and all the other tiling bits and bobs. Total cost (which is still rising) was about £500.
I ordered 1,000 business cards and I went around the streets of Ruislip and surrounding areas a couple of weeks ago. Tile shops (although some of them need portfolios), Bathroom and Kitchen showrooms etc. I managed to get an account at Topps (on my 5 attempt!). There is a new one in Ruislip and they guys there are very helpful. I popped in yesterday and they said not many people are asking for cards......which is a same for me!
To keep my hand in I have tiled our kitchen. There was only about 2mtrs of tiling, but it was around a window. I did a very good job if I say so myself. However, I was stuck on the three way mitre. I tried to look at Gaz's pictures (on this forum), but I do not have the right access privileges. Could someone help me please?
I think I will have to broaden my advertising area as I have not had one single call yet. I am a very competent tiler and am looking forward to my first job. Of course I will be a bit slower than most of you guys & girls, but speed will come with time.
So, now you know a bit about me. If you want to know any more, then please just ask.
Thanks for reading.
Cheers
Sean
