hello, need some slate fixing help

hello, been a while, hope all are well. i have got a job to do for a mate (on day rates) i need to fix chinese slate 4x4" can i use ardex d20 or do i need something else. first time doing slate on a wall, a ardex product would be best as i can collect direct, cheers Ben

I wouldn't use a dispersion adhesive on it ben......Slow set cement based or rapid setting which ever you feel comfortable using......You will probably have to back butter to get a good fix and will be too thick for tub gear..

i have got some ardex x7r, that ok? i hate slate 14 bloody sq mtrs:mad2: this is cheap aswell, 1 tile 6mm next 15mm, my mate quoted £500 to remove old tiles and retile. as soon as i saw the state of the slate said good luck buddy!! he withdrew the price due to the tiles , his cust has agreed to let us do day rate, thank god!!

Ardex X7R is nice to work with. Got about 30min in the bucket though, unless it is quite a cold room.

Just normal x7 , will give you more working time.......

BAL CTF3 would be good as well....but if you have enough x7r then it will be ok..just mix in small amounts to lessen the waste.......

P51 ben...not balbond..you are using ardex adhesive so use ardex primer as well...

Or BAL APD. if you are using Ardex, P51 primer is their preferred primer. Ardex-flex 5001 gives about 5hrs in the bucket. Never used it myself though. I have used X7g Plus which also gives 5hrs in the bucket but it was strange stuff. Goes very stiff when left to rest and needs a good mix before troweling. Quite hard work to use really, though it comes in smaller bags but gives the same coverage as the normal 22kg bags from Ardex.

Couldn't really say Ben, I know they do very similar things and to be honest, I have used it to prime when I have used BAL addy's sometimes as an emergency matter. It is best for us to recommend the correct product as per the manufacturers spec; however, if you choose to use it I am fairly sure you wouldn't have problems, just that it might give warranty problems if anything does actually go wrong.
