Hello all fellow tilers ive been back tiling now for the past couple of years so still learning new tricks all the time, i have found alot of very usful info on this site in the past so i thank you all for that, now i have a question i have a conservatoy floor to do with a manhole cover in it which has been left raised about 25mm the owner has now bought the thinnist floor tile ive seen which is about 6mm my dilema is should i raise the floor with a leveller by 10mm( which is not something im used to doing) or could i make it up with an adhesive if so which one, all replys welcomed.:welcome:

Hi and :welcome:

Definitely go the self levelling route, it will save you money and time in the long run

thanks alan i thought that was the way to go, i will have to have ago at it then, any tips or recommended brands to use, as i said its not something ive done before.

Whats the existing floor, Self leveller if definatley the way to go IMO,

I've always found Mapei to be excellent self levellers,

Fibreplan can go upto 10mm,

Ultraplan maxi can go up to 30mm if you need more depth,

Easy to use, Id recommend you invest in a spiked roller aswell, tradetiler will be able to sort you one out.

Sorry, I misread your first post. You say that the manhole cover is raised by 25mm, if you were to level to it are you going to interfere with any door openings or the like. If not then the Ultraplan, as Oli has said might be the way to go.

Hope that helps.

hi mate thanks for the reply, its a concrete base, ill have a look at the mapei gear ive been using there adi lately aswel seems good value, also the spiked roller? ive seen this before what does it actually do, does it help push it into the corners and bed down properly.

Hi Ellmas

Yes Spiked rollers help - normally you tend to over trowel the product leaving trowel swirls as the product starts to gel off and a spike roller removes the need to trowel and de-airs the product as wel. Plus gives a better key for the addy:thumbsup:

PS to the forum

Hi alan the cover is raised 25mm, i will need tile into the cover so tiles finish flush, just didnt want such a thick bed of adi, so raising the floor by 10mm or so should do it, also all doorways have plenty of clearance.
