I have an area on my bathroom wall that requires filling. This depression/hole is 1.4 sq. metres in plan area and 3cm deep. I have been informed that if I plaster it I have to wait several weeks for it to completely dry prior to applying a bonding agent (primer, sealer and dust proofer) before tiling.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I may reduce the total drying time to a day or so, in order that I may complete my tiling as soon as possible? I cannot do without a bathroom and most importantly a shower for so long.

Are there any quick drying plasters, renders or cements that I could feasibly use in this case?

Is it a myth about 4-6 weeks drying time prior to tilling on new plaster?

Not necessarily 4 to 6 weeks - you will be able to tell when the plaster is dry and ready to tile. Heat and a de-humidifier will help. If you don't want to wait for the plaster to dry, then have you got enough spare depth to spot and dab new plastervoard onto the wall over the existing plaster ? You will be able to tile the next day !!!

Thank you very much for you response Dave.

Can you use the powder floor adhesive for patching 30mm thick, and then utilise ready-mixed waterproof wall adhesive for the wall tiles?

Can you recommend any readily available rapid setting one coat plaster that I can use?

Thanking you in advance.

I would use plaster board to take up the bulk of that depth then skim in around it with rapid set or one coat...it is too thick to do in one go with rapid set..would need to be done with more than one go...all builders merchants sell fast set one coat...but if you take up the bulk of the depth with plaster board then it will be a quicker project for you.....

don't force dry plaster, it will shrink, crack and fall..always leave to dry naturally..Mark.
