help - faded area on porcelain tiles

S

sharon campbell

my brother has just spent 1 week laying 45m2 of b & q porcelain tiles 600 x 600. to his utter dismay when he came to seal them the b&q plas plugs sealer would not take i.e it remained damp and left a greasey smudge when touched ,he had to remove it with plas plugs tile cleaner.he then resealed with another sealant provided by a local company however this then reacted when the grout was put in,so the floor was restripped ,everything now looks fairly good however on 4 tiles a lighter 'faded' area about 1 inch wide has appeared down the edges of these tiles .
Any ideas/help/products you know that may help us darken these

Take the faded ones up and replace them with new ,dont know why you sealed them in the first place porcelains a tuff hard wearing tile.

I've seen the ones you mean in B&Q and its a big piece of porcelain for little price. That said, procelain is a very dense, hard material and with that polished surface (if thats the ones I'm thinking of?) they dont need sealing. you were ill advised by B&Q if you were sold down this route by them.

Why would you seal Porcelain tile??

The polishing process opens up millions of tiny pores that dirt and grime can collect in over time so that`s why certain porcelains need sealing. That`s what i`ve been taught anyway

I uses them a while back, no major problems, but they did a sticker on the side advising sealing before grouting, but like you i seen no reason to.

Sat some grout on the tile for a few hours and it didnt soak in or stain.

Looked smart when it was finished.
