Without seeing the tiles, hard to say but you must use your own judgement to see what looks best for you. Maybe do a dry lay with various gaps to see how it looks.

ps any good tips for cutting round toilet bottom and downpipe (waste ) nightmare !
Best to lift them if you can and tile underneath. Waste pipe is a slightly different matter. Either you buy a big drill to cut it or it's out with the nippers I am afraid.
