I have just purchased an old (1920's) house and after ripping up the horrible carpet that smelt of dog I found that the floor was actually tiled under it. It however has got paint and what looks like cement splattered here and there and I was wondering if and how it would be possible to strip back and clean up these tiles instead of re-carpeting.

Thanks for your help!

try a product called Lithofin Wexa OR Lithofin cement residue remover..from a good tile shop.

Try a test area first. Wet an area on the worst part of the floor and apply Aqua Mix Sealing & Coating Remover and allow it to dwell for around 15 Minutes keep it wet with the SCR and agitate from time to time with an Emulsifying Pad. Then clean up with old paper and finally rinse with warm water. This first stage will get rid of any paint or old waxes and make way for the next process. Now to Stage two: If there is any cement residue or grout residue on the floor you need to apply Aqua Mix Phosphoric Acid Diluted as per the directions and let that dwell keep agitating as in stage one and then clean off with some paper and rinse with warm water. Now having dealt with the waxes, Paint and cement residue you can now deal with the ingrained dirt apply some Aqua Mix Heavy Duty Tile & Grout cleaner and repeat the processes above and let it dwell then clean off as above. If it all works apply the process to the whole floor . If you only have partial results you may need to increase dwell times. Alternatively on stage three if the dirt is really bad you can back the Heavy Duty Tile & Grout up with Aqua Mix Nanoscrub. All these products are available in TradeTiler if not they are available on E Bay.
