Hi guys, could do with your help. Im just about to start tiling our ensuite with 450 x 300 x 10mm ceramics. We bought some border tiles to go with them to break it up a bit. ( majority of the tiles are white the rest are black with flower pattern wich will form four vertical borders ) The problem ive got is ive just noticed the border tiles are 2mm thinner and im struggling to find a suitable backer thin enough to make up the difference, any advice would be greatly appreciated. :mad2:

Ok I have the perfect solution for you. Use Mosaic Mesh from http://www.specialisttilingsupplies.co.uk/2011%20STS%20catalogue/01%20-%20Backerboards.pdf page 12
It comes in 300 x 300 sheets which use stick to the back of the mosaic. The mesh is self adhesive. You then cut the sheets into your required size for the border. The mesh helps pack out and keeps the mosaic in place. You can of course cut the mesh before sticking to the mosaic border if you have already cut them to size.
If you cant find it locally I could give you the number of a company that could send it out to you.

You can of course use the build out method with adhesive.

As Sir Ramic says, that stuff is really good at 2mm it should suit you just fine. If you are curious as to the other method, this might help:thumbsup:

As Phil indicated, the old school way is probably the cheapest and easiest method.
I have used a piece of plastic wide enough and stiff enough to serve and I cut back the ends of it to allow the applicator to fit in between the tiles.
The depth is adjusted to the proper level by trimming correctly.
then just pack the area with thinset using a trowel and smooth with the plastic applicator.
This provides the perfect height adjustment in the bed.
Let it dry, scrape off any bumps and install mosaics.
No need for any gizmo's.
Low tech solution.
