Hi,
I have just took off the wallpaper in my bathroom with a view to tiling but the plaster is painted . The paint is very well stuck on ,can I tile over this ?

Get some strong carpet tape apply to the paint leave it a while and then rip it off if any paint comes off then remove it all.

If it's emulsion here a little trick to get it off

Buy a cheap tub of ready mixed adhesive as cheap as you can find it, apply the is to the painted wall with the flat side of a trowel leave it and hour and then a sharp scraper and watch it fall off the wall. If it doesn't come to easily leave it a little longer and try again. Makes a bit of mess but is quite easy to get it off

Hi, thanks for the advice ,if the paint is stuck well could I leave it on and score the wall

The problem with emulsion is it is water based and as such when you apply the adhesive it makes the surface of the paint re emulsify somyour adhesive is sticking to the thin layer or wet paint. I wouldn't recommend it myself others may disagree if you tile over the top all the weight of the tiling is held on to the wall by a thin layer of paint.

I sanded all the paint off the walls in my bathroom when I tiled it to full height a couple of years ago. the paint has to go. sanding is a messy job but it definitely gets it off the plaster.
