Just pulled up floor tiles from a small bathroom, was a nightmare!! What would be the best adhesive to put down when before i re tile as there is some old tile adhesive that wont budge????? ((((help))))

Slow down a little and give us the details, what is the floor under the tiles, what tiles are going down, how much adhesive is left on the floor. The more info we have the better the advice we can give.

yeah ply is down and has old adhesive stuck to it.........customer did'nt want units or toilet taken out so the ply has to stay!!!

customer will decide on the fitting date what tile type she wants.......ply is down from last job with old adhesive stuck to it in parts!!

hi,you need to find out the thickness its going to be 6mm 9mm or 12mm or 18mm no doubt......check door area where it ends?

is it nailed or screwed? and is it in good condition or damaged

nice 1. yeah its 9mm ply little damage, but some.......its been screwed down??

Is it in 1 piece or are there joins.
Did the old tiles have any cracks from movement over them.

hi frank,9mm is not sufficient imo to tile onto especially since its already been used and has soem damage as well

customer cannot dictate what stays on a job that you are doing if you are to guarantee this work you must prep it to the correct standard

i would insist the ply is removed and replaced or i would not proceed

Kilty has hit the nail on the head above. 9mm ply is not thick enough. Have a quick read through the link below, I would want new min 15mm boil and water proof ply, fixed down at min 300mm centers and then over boarded with a suitable cement board. This may seem like a lot of work but it will give the best floor for tiling.
