no it was the powder stuff i used - one bathroom has ceramic the other porcelain- the tiles on the floor seem fairly solid its the walls that are coming off- i think it was evostik flexible i used

How big a job would it be for you to remove the ply? Whilst others may say its ok to tile on ply it is not a surface I feel comfortable with. I would prefer bare plasterboard in areas that do not come into contact with moisture and aqua panels for those areas that do. This would eliminate having to tank all but the joints and corners. If however you do not want to replace the ply then you could install 6mm hardibacker boards, these are glued and screwed to the ply, make sure the ply is solidly fixed, strengthen it if there is any deflection at all. Use mapei keraquick adhesive or a similar product if you cant get to a mapei stockist, tilegiant do stock it. It is a fairly rapid drying product so only mix what you feel comfortable with, say enough to cover 1 mtr at a time.

it would be a nightmare to take down the ply but maybe i could put plasterboard over it- what is aquapanel and can u tile directly over it?
tx for all the help btw

morning rathulf

yes you can use aquapanel around the shower area. I'm not sure how you would go about fixing it to ply. Were you considering taking the ply down or leaving it up?

Aqua panel is mechanically fixed with screws that can be bought to go with it. Do not fix it with adhesive or dot and dab it because it wont work, it should have a label on it telling you not to do this. I use glue as well, pink gripfill is the nuts. Most good builders merchants will stock it.

no i was thinking of using aquapanel around shower wall area and maybe plasterboard around the rest- if i do, would i need to apply something to the plasterboard before tiling and what adhesive would be best?

Yes you need to put a sealer over the plaster board, I use bal's sealer, some say to just use a PVA glue sollution but I wouldn't advise that since if any damp gets to it, it turns to slime and you run the risk of tiles falling off.
