Hi, guess what, NEWBIE on the block, the advice i need is simple enough once I know :smilewinkgrin: I need a surface I can get some much needed practice on, and like a lot of people I don't have lots of wall space, SO can I use boarding ie mdf, so I can tile, and re-do as well ?, I believe that the boarding will need sealing, your opinions would be welcome thanks guys !

:welcome: pomma - MDF is not a surface I'd tile on directly in any project as the surface doesn't give the grip that allows a good adhesion. Moisture in the adhesive could also caused movement and debonding.
However if its just for practice and ease of removal it could be ideal.

A sheet of 12-18mm ply would be the best, thats what i used when i started out. Sturdy, and can take a battering when removing tiles!

Welcome to TF. Yeah. Something like 18mm WBP ply wood be ideal. It's sturdy & smooth but allows a good enough adhesion to finish your practising. Get your self a slow setting adhesive so by the time your finished, it'll be much easier to take off. I wouldn't worry about the grouting side of things if your practising. My 10 year old son can grout.
If you need tiles to practice with, jump to some tile outlets like Topps & ask if they are changing any displays soon. Old stock gets written off & skipped so ask them to keep it aside for you.

All very good advice, but good grouting does take practice in my opinion
