Hi, after being let down by a tiler who didn't turn up I decided I was going to re-tile the bathroom myself. I have removed all the old tiles and filled in any holes in the walls where I have taken screws etc out. I've skimmed the wall with plaster where it was needed and am about to start on the tiling. I am using 33x25 tiles with a border in the middle of the room. I've measured and re-measured where the tiles are to be placed BUT do I need to prime the wall with a waterproof adhesive before actually placing the tiles. I have brought Unibond Ultimate Grab Waterproof Ceramic wall Tile Adhesive to use. Thanks

Normally ready mix adhesives would not need a primer and in fact a primer could be counter productive. however as with several other post I agree that this may not be the best type of adhesive for the application. I would prefer to use a powdered adhesive and mix it as I go. If this is the route then a primer would be a requirement. The issue with tubbed is hphe general feel that the tensile strength is lower than a powdered adhesive would give. It may well be worth a call to bostik technical ( bostik make Unibond) to check that the adhesive is suitable first.
