Hi,

I've had a look through the site but was unable to find any information regarding the joint between a showertray with an upstand and homelux matting.

The showertray is recessed into one plasterboard wall and one solid plaster wall so that the upstands are flush with the wall surface(before fitting the matting).

If anyone could give me some advice as to how the joint should be made between the tray and the matting or point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated 🙂

Sam

p.s I am a DIYer and went into topps to purchase/get advice on a tanking system and this was the solution that they advised (I told them the shower tray I wanted to use this with.)...

Let the matting over hang slightly below the lip ....You will get a good fix but depends on how much wall was cut out for the tray to slide in...

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your reply. The shower tray is a pretty snug fit the gap above the lip is 2-3mm tops but could be closed a little by raising the shower tray. When you say over hang does that mean the matting would be over the front of the upstand? Also would I need to attach the matting to the upstand with anything or will Silicon for the tile be enough?

Cheers

Sam

A good quality flexible cementbased adhesive will hold it no probs....i have done a few and they have stuck solid..

The idea of the lip on the tray is to stop water seeping over the edge but the membrane will stop water i ngression through the tile joint getting into the bottom of the wall substrate where it has been cut..

Thanks Dave, This is just what i was going to ask but I have now found my answer.

Stick the matting to the tray upstand with SPF then tile as normal..can you confirm for me please.?

Correct.

thanks alot grumps, I knew i was going to come across this problem one day and hey presto I have.

Ripped out old Matki tray and enclosure, previous fitter tiled down to the upstand on the tray and tried to Silicon between the bottom of the tile and the upstand, substrate was 18mm wbp, Wall tiles are Gaya casentino.(porcelain mosaics £105 per sqm ouch.)
I am now rebuilding recess with aquapanel and tanking membrane etc.

I really will try and take time to post some pics cause they are quite something.

Anyway dinner is ready
