fit a metal door strip between bathroom floor tiles which leads to a hallway carpet ?

It's my first job laying a tiled bathroom floor this weekend. Just want to know if anyones got any advise how to fix the metal gripper strip ? Is it easy ?

I'm laying the tiles onto a concrete floor so will the strip have to be screwed to the floor ? or does the tile / carpet hold it in place ?

Advise would be helpful, many thanks

It's quite easy

There are strips that have carpet grippers one side and a flat edge the other to tile up to.

You'll need to cut the strip to size with hacksaw, I use a speed square to draw a line across it to makesure I cut it square.

You will need to screw it down. I'd lay the strip how you want it, mark with a pencil where you need the holes. Drill them with the appriate bit, place raw plugs in the holes then screw the strip down.

You'll need to push the carpet onto the grippers (bear this in mind when marking out where you put the strip). Tile up to the flat side and grout. Then you flatten the strip onto the carpet and tiles. Use a piece of wood to protect the strip then hit it with a hammer a few times and it should flatten down with out damaging the strip.

HI,
There are also other carpet trims for the doorway that accomodate carpet to a "higher or even lower level tile"
I was getting them from my local Screwfix but they have stopped stocking them...and I have since found the very same in Wickes....albeit a tad dearer.
They come as two pieces, I strip to fasten to the floor...it is self adhesive but I always screw fix it down. This has a central trough to receive the top plate. It is attached together by plastic ribbed clips that sit on a thin rail beneath to top plate, that then pushes into the trough of the fixed strip. It has the ability to rotate someway either way to accomodate the varying heights. It comes with two sizes of clips....one to accommodate a lower and one to accommodate a higher degree of height difference. The top plate is cambered and looks great when fit.
It is available in either silver / alu effect or golden alu effect.... I have used loads with no probs to date.
Hope this helps too...
Thanks
degs
