How has 2012 started for you work wise.?

Hi Arms members, well we are into the 2nd week of 2012 and thought i would see how 2012 has started for you on the work front..


Last January my phone rang from day one of the first week and got me well booked up... this year not a peep till this week... had a few calls and with the big job in the dales i am on, this should take me into March no probs...

I always tend to think the worst when things go slow calls wise, but seems to be ok so far ( fingers crossed ) also just had a plumb comp come back to me after 2 years, they decided as they were quiet to do the tiling themselves but work has megga picked up for him, hence he came back to me to lighten the load..

So pleased about that, he just booked 6 jobs in today..

So anyway, how are things for you..?

Excellent here, booked to mid March and had a call from a developer today who could potentially offer me 25 properties annually, have a meeting with him on Friday so we'll see how that goes. May need to take someone on if that work comes up but, I had a bad experience the last time I subbed out so I'll have to see what happens. All in all, it's great, I LOVE TILING

Forgot to mention, i had an enquiry about 55 bathrooms to a 4 star hotel... shall keep stum where as don't want poachers..lol... meeting him friday as well..

I keep toying with the idea of doing a bit more commercial work, but I'm not sure I could put up with all the hassle that's associated with it.

Very slow here, I had to take on some remedial work for a builder I work for on a regular basis who took over a job when main contractor went bust. All day rates though but its warm in there.

there's not enough days in the week at the moment, i'm having to give a kitchen (fitting) away to a joiner mate and juggle things about to keep everyone happy. can't complain

nice and steady got some nice jobs to price up and am booked up until mid February so I am happy

good start for me and my lads 2 large commercial jobs keep us busy nearly all year

A plumber I know started doing his own tiling because work was short but has got quite a bit of work in one house and asked me to do the tiling and plastering...

well im very quite, been out this evening to look at a 3m2 kitchen splashy, and 3m2 of slate in a poarch, wonder if its worth it sometimes, quoted two big bathrooms 50m2 just after christmas but the customer rang to say the plumber was doing it all now, as it was cheaper :mad2: got three bathrooms to look at this week, so a least the phones ringing, always the same though when your piled out with work everyone wants it doing yesterday and when you got nowt know ones in a hurry lol..

Put back another week on a big kitchen re plaster and 18m of slate floor.
Started a barn re fit yesterday( just downstairs plastering) now waiting for leccy to 1st fix. Booked up with plastering for a month or 2, got a bathroom to tile and a en suite and a floor in next month or so+ put a offer in on a house to do up and rent out, also gonna get another when i can find one cheap enough
Ps im not loaded im borrowing to do this for my pension

No commission as yet, but have three galleries to supply, one that wants outdoors/garden items, (so there are more birdbaths to come, simpler ones this time, nice to do) a charity piece to make and something for an exhibition. All cost money with no immediate returns, so am much happier with commissions in general and hoping something will come up after I get back from Germany to sort out my late Mum's flat etc., perhaps NOT having to start a commission yet may be a blessing in disguise. Makes me a bit nervous though.

waiting tonight for a call to give the go ahead for 2weeks work starting mon and quite a few jobs coming off after that but not 1 actual date to start.even though its a slow start im pretty sure the ball is gonna start rolling v soon:smilewinkgrin:

Not back until Monday, but booked solid through till April, with a lot on the desk to price up. Need to fit in a couple of holidays this year, as working solid is no fun and I'm really enjoying my time off.......

Finished a job this week Id started before Christmas. I have another steam room to do soon but no start date yet. Some possible work for Feb through a decorator I know but nothing's confirmed.
This time last year I was very busy.
