How has 2012 started for you work wise.?

Been crazy for a me! Left home on the 2nd jan and have just got back, 11 nights on a supermarket job. Home for the weekend then away for a week on another. Things get back to normal for a few weeks then, 1100 m2 in a department store which is a bit more local. Looks like I'll be doing a lot of travelling this year but not going to complain

i feel your pain there doug. i have had absoloutly nothing since christmas!! Im really thinking about other options too... it sucks... did have some work in london but the low emissions zone has put a swift end to that

It's so easy to worry with all the bad news... but it's early days in the year, everything can change with just a couple of calls getting the ball rolling again..

I'm pleased to hear many are doing so well. More than I expected for so soon in the year. I know many of you say that last year was better but I'm sure it'll pick up once people start getting their Jan wages etc. This year has just been hard for many more than usual. More unemployed, less grants for work, dodgy economy still, etc Tesco even reported losses like-for-like! etc etc I'm sure you know the score. It'll pick up soon for most though I'm sure.

Obviously remember to keep checking the 'I'm looking for a tiler' forum category and perhaps consider doing a leaflet drop or changing a bit of your advertising in some way to try a couple of new things and stop a couple of things that aren't working. If you've not got one, get a website sorted this year from somewhere. Make sure your business is registered with Google Places (Google Places - click the one on the right to add your business), that can get you phone calls even if you have no website (worthy double brownie points if you link it to a website too though mind!).

And of course if you're a bit slack and have the time, keep going out there to the tile shops and network a bit more than usual. Call the old builders you worked with etc etc.

I'm 100% certain this is the worst part of this year we're getting out of the way though. It's just a time of year people are a bit skint and not much gets done around most homes improvement-wise this time of year as you all probably know better than me.

As I said though - nice to see so many booked up, and others with big jobs possibly lined up.

Great start to the year for me,no days off yet and have a few jobs in line plus its always nice to hear Bri's booked up till March cause he always passes his spare work my way

Things have changed since i moaned on this thread bout 10 days ago.Booked for next 3 weeks and quoted 4 nice size jobs all in last 7 days ......Roll on 2012 !!!

Got two jobs in today. Would say this is my busiest January so far. Got really busy around last May and haven't really slacked off since, so hopefully I can keep it lit another year.

chuffin dire here, had 3 days work this month,been ok`d for 4 jobs but waiting on plumbers and tiles

itll be 3 years ive been going in july,and im thinking of going back to civil engieering cos im fed with dry patches

pity as i love the job,hours ect... steve
