How many guys tile over chipboard floor?

As I said before I have always been against tiling onto the stuff. I some I would have also said this in previous posts in the past.

I guess to cut a long story short AVOID LIKE THE PLAQUE!:lol:

same goes for tongue and groove planks.

Have done, using a 2 part flexible, but if I have my way I'll request it overboarded.

I did a small ensuite for a mates parents a few years ago. They wouldnt hear of ply or anything else that raised the floor.
Floor was in good shape and thay fully accepted the risks. Aint heard anything.....yet!

For pease of mind I wouldnt recommend it. Thats what lino is for!

Ripped out cust old floor tiles on lino on chipboard:yikes:, chipboard looked nice and sound, 7yr old house, lifted last few tiles and lino and chipboard was , well not a board ( sodden rotten mess ), worse still beam under partition wall was also rotten I was able to easily push my finger into beam about an inch.
Job stopped untill surveyor did his business. Has really put me off chipboard even thogh I use Hardibacker over it. If the chipboard fails everything will, no likey.

Adhesives do get better and better....i agree...but chipboard is chipboard and adhesive is only sticking to the surface, so be it a 1 part S2 or a 2 pack S2 or even an elastomeric adhesive like fast flex...it don't matter it is still chipboard the same product whether it is standard flexible or super super flexible adhesive...it is an unstable substrate and hates water..

i have to send a sample to the chemists at PCI before i tile it for them to say its only sort of ok its not a great surface to tile on not to be recommended in a perfect world but do we live in one ?

answer to the main question is no but when i started out a few years ago i did once on the customers say so 50m2 but have never heard anything from them but i defo do not recommend doing so for the reasons already stated.

I did about 3 years ago, it was a conservatory and used soveriegn porcelflex with sbr.

No movement whatsoever and have been back a few times to do extra work, still solid but not that I would do it again

I've never tiled onto chipboard, always overboard them.
I have been asked to repair a few "tiled on chipboard" floors though :lol:
