How to grind/polish slate

Hi All. Firstly, my apologies for long absense (been having a bit of mare running to Devon and back and trying to finish a job that keeps getting changed).
Just finished laying ufh and 20sqm of slate. Was giving it clean and seal today and customer has taken exception to a "feature" on one of the tiles and asked for it to be changed. As the tile in question has been there a day or so I said that I couldn't guarantee that lifting it would not damage the ufh. He accepted this and said leave it. I have since read an old post where some features had been ground off the tile. I assume that it means grinding off the layer that makes the feature.

My question then is this. Is it possible/ridiculous to try this, how difficult is it (I could practice on some off cuts), and what is the best tool for the job?

I know the guy has said leave it, but I know it will bug him and he won't really be happy.

if the feature is on the edge of the slate Smudger, you could try knapping it off with a 2" bolster, but if it's in the middle I'd be inclined to leave it well alone.

Took your advice and left well alone. Look nice now grouted. I do wonder why people buy natural stone and then complain about the natural effects. To my mind that's a large part of the attraction. Oh well, I'm just here to make him happy I suppose.
