can you be a little more specific what type of installation is it shower room, communal shower, patio ?
Sory lads for not being more specific. what im after is the system used to waterproof and tile a drainage channel in a floor. i need to screed the floor with a slight downward slope for the water to run in to the channel and then down the drain.

I have never attempted this before but am confident to tackle anything i come accross.

What system would you use to water proof the floor & channel ? and would you install the tiles in the normal fashion using water proof addy and grout and silicoln the joints???

Any advice would be much appreciated

Brian & Dave, thanks for the comments, the drainage will be a channel for a communal shower area. there will be a channel running through the floor in the showers, to my reconing i would screed the floor to a slight slope, tank & then tile.in the channel i would put the base tile in to the channel first then tiling down to it. then silicon the joints.

i think that should be ok, one thing that im unsure about is the tanking, what system would be best. i use the Ball WP1 kit for walls but have never used it on a floor?

Should i use the Ball system of a matting system?

Any comments or corrections would be helpfull

its better to build a shower kerb/bund then tank the floor area inside the the kerbed area this enables you to build the falls in the screed to accomodate the gully tile and drain you need ,once tanked water test the tanked area for 24 hours to see if it holds water once you are satisfied the area is holding water you can screed the falls to 1:30 put wire mesh in the screed as it is unbonded allow a gap for the gulley tiles once dried through paint the screed with pci lastogum allow to dry then tile as normal spf etc fit the gulley tiles with a 4/1 mix of sharp sand and opc remember .grout with a flex grout and you will have no problems

Personally peter i prefer to use a membrane over the solution kits but this is just my preference....You could use schluters Kerdi to do the floor and walls......

http://www.schluter.co.uk/produkt.aspx?doc=8-1-kerdi.xml&pg=funktion

alternatively contact Wetdec and see what he has for the job........

Thanks for the advice Dave, I have been looking at these matting systems, they are very cost affective and a much nicer sysyem to fix

i still think it is a valuable skill to pocess, i priced a job this week where the bulider had screeded the floor with his eyes shut he had filled the man hole cover up to the top ,the floor runs up and down by up to 50mm, i will be replacing the manhole cover and laying the 60x60 floor tiles in sand and cement is the cheapest way for the customer rather than using 50 bags of slc
