It's worth siliconing the joint between the back of the worktop and wall first, then tile on that first bead of silicon. When the tiling is complete run a second bead of silicon.
Back to the tiling question start from the worktop also on the extractor wall start in the centre of the extractor working both ways out, if you have a window start centre of that as well
