hello some help needed please, i want to tile from kitchen worktop to cupboards abt 3 tiles high, do i (a) tile from worktop upwards or (b) use a baton first? also any advice about cutting around plug sockets please

As long as your worktops are level then start from there, Don't 'cut around' sockets take them off and let the socket sit on top of the tiles if you know what I mean

start from the work top up. try the tiles dry or measure to the plug sockets so you can make sure you have a good cut around them.

Just to add to that. You might need longer screws to refit the sockets. You should get them at a diy store.

don't forget to leave a 3mm gap between worktops and bottom of first row of tiles for your silicon.

It's worth siliconing the joint between the back of the worktop and wall first, then tile on that first bead of silicon. When the tiling is complete run a second bead of silicon.
Back to the tiling question start from the worktop also on the extractor wall start in the centre of the extractor working both ways out, if you have a window start centre of that as well

As above, as long as your worktop is level go from there. I usually sit the 1st row on top of some spacers and then silicone. If you've not got one an angle grinder is a god send when cutting for the sockets.
