Installing Aquapanel

I'm renovating a failed Shower in an alcove. Three sides, two brick one studded.
I've just replaced floorboarding and intend installing a 60,mm slimline shower tray 760,mm.
I will be using Aquapanel as I'm having to take off all existing Plaster and Tiles.
Can someone advise me on what size battens are best to use on the brick walls and will I need to use 12,5mm Aquapanel or can I get away with 6,mm as I've seen advertised on here? Knauf recommend 40,mm screws ?
I'm using Aquapanel as the walls were all over the place, just like myself when I started!!

Hi Chris.

If you are just installing tile under 32kg then plaster board would be an option. and then tank it..

You can D&D the plasterboard to get nice flat walls... quick and easy.

I would use the 12.5mm aquapanell for walls as you are putting it on frame work and it is more of a solid base to tile onto as you got voids behind. timbers to be plumb and spaced no more then 400mm centres, and to apply aquapanel waterproof/reinforced tape over the joints and feathered out with adhesive prior to tiling, I would use pre treated timber to go behind wet areas. the screws are 40mm -aquapanell at 12.5mm that means timbers need to be at least 28 mm thick or if they are being packed off the wall to make it all plumb then you could get away with a 25mm batten if there is space behind to accomadate the extra screw length? or you could buy pre treated cls which would be the one i would use imo. all depends on how much you have to pack the timbers off to keep it all plumb and how much room you got for the shower tray etc!
Dont forget to put in extra supports for the shower valve/rail and door etc.

If you go the dot and dab for plasterboard and any of the walls are external. they should be sealed at the ceiling lines, around shaver sockets, any holes in the wall and at the bottom of the the wall to stop any air circulating behind the boards which will kill off any thermal properties the board was designed for

Hey thanks lads,
This is a great response and given me room to manouvre (not in alcove though!)

The original tray 760.mm was put in tight to exposed brickwork, two sides, the other tight against base of stud wall. then all plastered on top and tiled (internal dimn. with tiles 700.mm to 675.mm), consequently it's been leaking for years.
Now I've exposed the walls to brick and starting the same to stud tomorrow, I'm stuck really to using a 700.mm tray and this will now give me the clearance for studding and accomodating tiling on top..
One thing I have discovered is the stud wall is two frames of 3x2 with a 25.mm gap between the two where the water and electric cable travel up. height from floor to ceiling is ten foot. I'm thinking if I can get away with removing one of these frames, then I could go back to a 760.mm tray. Incidentally the stud wall is only 760.mm from back brick wall to front of stud. So I could "build these up".
Anyway I've just got back in and looking forward to a brew, again thanks for all your help, I'll keep you posted if that's Ok.
